Welcome 2011

Happy New Year!

Our class is hoping that you will make a resolution to tell friends and family members about the blog. We love reading your comments and showing off our skills! Coming soon - Dallas, Allie and Victoria will join Alex and upload their Native American reports, created using GarageBand and iMovie.

When we return from break....

In social studies we will begin to study the South and the Civil Rights Movement. The entire 4th grade will recite a portion of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s I Have a Dream speech at All School Meeting on January 19th. Come join us!

In writing we will research information about a specific topic such as the Freedom Riders or the Little Rock Nine. This information will be displayed on a mobile that students will create. During integrated social studies we will create PowerPoint presentations about our research.

In language arts we will begin to read the book The Liberation of Gabriel King by K.L. Going. Set in a small town in Georgia in the year 1976, it tells the story of a friendship between Gabe King, who is white, and his friend Frita Wilson, who is African American. This book will occasionally be assigned for homework, and an audio copy will be available on our iPods. Students may read the story on their own, or listen to the story while reading the text.

In math we will begin a further in-depth study of division with remainders as well as some reinforcement with our money skills.

I am excited for our learning and our projects!
