Pioneers

Prairie Day has officially been scheduled for Friday, May 20th at 11am. This event takes place on the farmhouse field outside of the preschool. It is filled with costumes, music and old-fashioned events such as tinsmithing. It will be a day after our field trip to Hornbine School, the one-room school house in Rehoboth.

For the next several weeks on Tuesdays and Fridays during integrated social studies, the 4th grade will be transformed into a “one-room schoolhouse” feel. Each student’s name and persona will change to portray a more authentic representation of that time period. Take a look:

Sr. and Sra. Vallejo live on a large ranch 5 miles from town and raise cattle. They have 6 children who speak both English and Spanish. Their oldest son, Juan, is 20 and helps on the ranch. Their children in school are:
Anna Vallejo, age 5
Maria Vallejo, age 9
Alphonso Vallejo, age 10
Sonia Vallejo, age 14
Eduardo Vallejo, age 16

Mr. Smith is a widower who is raising his family and running his farm. His 15 year-old son, Jeb, and 12 year-old daughter, Celia, oldest can’t attend school because they need to help out at home. His other children are:
Molly Smith, age 5
Travis Smith, age 7
Seth Smith, age 9
Robbie Smith, age 13

This is an exciting time, as we will finish up our geography of the United States quizzes with a final check on the Midwest states this coming Friday, 4/15. We will also begin our final research project of the year, including topics such as covered wagons, prairie plant and animal life, illnesses/medicines.

I can't wait to upload some pictures!
