Geography

Hi everyone,

     I just wanted to give you an update about social studies. Our social studies text breaks the states into 4 different regions (northeast, south, midwest and west). Today, we will be taking a test on the states in the northeast region of the United States. Next week we will move on to the states in the south. My hope is that we will be able to come up with some mnemonic strategies to help us with this.

     Any help you can give at home would be greatly appreciated. It is a daunting (and exciting!) to think that by the end of the year we will know where all 50 states are located. It would also be helpful to review your child's address with them, including country and continent. 

     We will soon be learning about westward expansion. We will begin reading Little House on the Prairie when we get back from break. Contrary to what I thought last year, this book is full of adventure and boys and girls alike enjoyed this read!  Be sure to check out Victoria and Allie's upcoming post about the Oregon Trail.
