Busy Week

Our class is really taking off with the blog. I feel like I don't have much of the exciting stuff to report - only boring teacher information!

That being said, starting next week we will begin our spelling words. These sight words (named because they should be committed to sight in addition to the fact that some of the words don't follow phonetic rules) are taken from the top 500 words written in the English language.

Side note: I can't believe that people out there did the research to discover what the 500 most common words are, but there you have it.

Over several days, we took a spelling test of the top 200 words. Words that were spelled incorrectly were made into individualized spelling lists. These words should be practiced over the week, and there will be a quiz given every Friday morning.

A folder will be kept at home and these will be each student's "No Excuse" words - words that students will be held accountable for spelling correctly. Since you will have the list at home, if you chose to go over your child's homework (optional) you know what to check for.

I hope that this makes sense to you - please email me if you have any questions!
