It's almost Founders' Day....

Hello there,

Well, I feel like I do not have much to blog about thanks to the wonderful work of Allie, Dallas, Victoria and Alex. They have covered a lot of news!

As Victoria and Allie mentioned, we are moving on from our explorer unit. We did research about explorers (Alex: Roald Amundsen, Dallas: Jacques Cousteau, Victoria: Ponce de Leon and Allie: Amelia Earhart) and created some wonderful comics on our new Comic Life software in order to present our information. Some are going home today, and some are going home on Monday.

Hopefully you saw a flyer go home about a 4th and 5th grade after school Math Olympiads. This free program builds problem solving skills and is led by Mr. Loabto (upper division math teacher). It meets on Thursdays from 3:10-4:00. The program runs until March 31st. The forms were due back today, but perhaps Mr. Lobato still has some space!

How do you think homework is going? I welcome any feedback if you have some to share. Soon, other components such as Read Naturally and spelling will be added. Just a note about our new IDR book - students have Reader's Notebooks in addition to a packet of comprehension questions. They are only responsible for completing one or the other, and have assigned days to do so:

Allie and Alex - Reader's Notebook Tuesday and Thursday
Dallas and Victoria - Reader's Notebook on Monday and Wednesday

Coming Events

  • Field trip to the New Bedford Whaling Museum and a walking tour of historic New Bedford October 19th - we will leave school at 10am and be back for period 8
  • The Whaling Event (name TBD by 4th grade students on Tuesday) will be November 9th from 8:30-9:30. Come see art projects, science projects and written work as well. Also, be prepared to listen to some sea shanties!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend - maybe I will see some of you tomorrow night!
